WINNER OF THE 2014 CONCRETE SURFACES POLISHING AWARD FOR THE BEST COMMERCIAL PROJECT

Desco is proud to announce that we are the 2014 Concrete Surfaces Polishing Award recipient for the best commercial project for our polished concrete at the Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre in Edmonton. Desco polished approximately 23,500 ft² of concrete to a Class B Level 4 (salt-and-pepper depth with a high gloss) finish. The concrete polishing was throughout the main public areas. The main walkways, entryways, feature stairs, a feature wall, benches, and columns feature polished concrete.

Polishing the walls and columns proved to be quite the challenge in order to fill all the pockets and bug-holes in the concrete in order to match the floor. Working vertically is tough work. The installers have to lift, hold, and expertly maneuver heavy equipment for days on end. But our skilled craftspeople answered the call on this award winning project. We’re proud of what they’ve accomplished.

Polished Concrete is a Sustainable Floor Finish

The LEED Silver project achieved the goal of providing a high-quality low maintenance solution to the City of Edmonton and the users of the recreation centre for years to come. Polished concrete is a LEED finish. Polished concrete does not require harsh chemicals and has a long service life.
